The Tale: HEAVY. The thing you need to know about this HBO movie is that it is not only about a man in his 30s who takes the virginity of and continues to have sex with a13-year-old girl, but the filmmaker’s actually show the sex. The Tale does not shy away from a thing and I can’t say it’s a pleasant night at the movies but it’s a fantastic film about how the mind plays tricks on itself. Laura Dern is the truth too. ***3/4
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?: A touching, thorough (enough) tribute to a fascinating all-timer of a human being in Fred Rogers. Watching the Senate testimony footage play out is an incredible thing. ****
Solo: A Star Wars Story: This poor movie came around during what might’ve been Peak Star Wars so it’s not like a great Star Wars movie but it is a really fun movie on its own and the Star Wars filming style helps keep it interesting. The young fella playing Solo does an incredible young Harrison Ford too. ***1/2
Ocean’s 8: The cast is strong, the heist is kind of interesting, and everybody is having a good time! ***
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: This stupid movie is the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time. Dinosaurs are cool but this basically felt pointless. The finish sets up some interesting possibilities though. *1/4
