5 Star Movies: Sorry To Bother You, Eighth Grade, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Book Club, Ideal Home

Sorry To Bother You: Easily one of the most fascinating movies I’ve ever seen… I mean there is A LOT going on here. Fascinating, horrifying, tons of fun. What a cast too, led by Lakeith Stanfield who rules. The “white voice” gimmick killed me too. ****1/2

Eighth Grade: It’s an underrated skill set to hit comedic notes and keep things authentic – this movie did that. I laughed, I hurt – I couldn’t keep my eyes off this thing. *****

Ant-Man and The Wasp: The Ant-Man are maybe just under Dr. Strange as least important Marvel Universe movies but they lean into that and make it not a fault. There’s enough interesting ideas and Paul Rudd charm to make this a worthy addition to the series. And I gasped at the post-credits scene. ***1/2

Book Club: Look, this movie wasn’t made for me. It built to a couple big things and it delivered on those things. And Jane Fonda remains a Goddess. **1/2

Ideal Home: Kind of a silly movie that feels like an excuse to have Paul Rudd and Steve Coogan play a gay couple, but I will tell you what there is heart in this thing. ***1/4
