The Highwaymen: It’s Bonnie & Clyde but in reverse, about the guys hired to track them down. And it’s a pair of solid performances from Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. Kathy Bates is also playing a Governor named “Ma” and that’s very good. It tries real hard to give Costner and Woody backstory and doesn’t quite achieve going anywhere interesting with it, but by the end of the movie when they show the pictures of the actual guys I was like, “Fuck yeah, you two.” ***
Cold War: A black-and-white love story that spans decades that is honestly just beautiful. It looks beautiful, the story is beautiful. Incredible, careful, special filmmaking. ****1/4
Isn’t It Romantic: A silly, fun movie. It’s not some genius satire but Rebel Wilson is a charmer. **1/2
Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes: A must-see movie to understand what’s going on with God damn cable news. God damn Roger Ailes. ****
Capernaum: Very cool movie, filmed in Lebanon with many non-actors and an awesome central premise: a 12-year-old boy sues his parents for being born. How do we get there? The movie shows you! What a world. ****1/4
