5 Star Movies

5 Star Movies: A Quiet Passion, Lady Macbeth, The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movie

A Quiet Passion: I adore the camera shot of the family getting their photos taken and slowly aging. Otherwise, I couldn’t get into this. It’s a literary drama that includes all the boring stuff that comes with a literary drama and not the compelling cool stuff. *3/4

Lady Macbeth: This is a dark movie you can’t keep your eyes off, an hour and a half that packs a punch. Hell of a performance by Florence Pugh, who doesn’t have a ton of dialogue yet conveys a completely developed character. ****

The Lego Movie: So creative, so fun, and the tremendous “real-life” twist at the end is an all-timer. Great voice acting, gags, animation – this is the real deal. ****3/4

The Lego Batman Movie: These movies are just fun as heck. It’s a step down from The Lego Movie but it’s still a creative, fun time. ***3/4

The Lego Ninjago Movie: These movies are just fun as heck. It’s a step down from The Lego Batman Movie which was a step down from The Lego Movie but it’s still a creative, fun time. ***1/2
