Daddy’s Home 2: Will Ferrell still rules, but Mel Gibson can still suck it. **
A Futile and Stupid Gesture: I’m not sure if any of this was actually funny but this is a movie bursting at the seams with cameos and portrayals of famous comedians as young people and drugs and history and all kinds of crazy stuff. Douglas Kenney, folks. ***1/2
LBJ: I couldn’t buy Woody Harrelson as a short LBJ that looked like Nixon, but damnit if it wasn’t an engaging story regardless. It just felt a little easy – like, Rob Reiner is a fine movie maker but I want to see an LBJ with some serious depth to him. **3/4
Pitch Perfect 3: Probably didn’t need to happen, but I’m happy for everybody involved. *
I, Tonya: The tone of this movie was probably hard to settle on, in that in the grand scheme of things that these bumbling guys tried to break Nancy Kerrigan’s leg on behalf of this take-no-shit ice skating prodigy with a horrible mother IS kind of funny, even if it’s all really awful too. I think they did alright though and it resulted in a quality movie. Margot Robbie and Allison Janney can ACT. ***1/2
