Performance Review – AEW Dynamite (10/7/20)

Overall Evaluation and Achieved Goals

Why did JERICHO HIT THE CLOWN SO HARD???

Areas of Excellence Within Performance

Chris Jericho is a frustrating sonofabitch, but thirty years in this BIZ-NESS – give it up. The call-ins from Hiroshi Tanahashi and Ultimo Dragon were tremendous and filled with respect, while the call-ins from a few of the celebs were tremendous and filled with absolute astonishment that this cool rich dude is involved with pro wrestling.

I have no idea why they booked the Mr. Brodie Lee/Cody TNT Title gimmick rematch on the same show as Jericho’s 30th Anniversary, as it could’ve not just closed this show but any major show. Maybe it’s a demo thing. Maybe I am a fool.

The Dog Collar Match ruled, really really ruled – much like Cody vs. Dustin a year ago, it was as Jim Crockett Promotions as wrestling might be able to get in 2020. They didn’t play around and try and tell a story, because the story was already told – all they needed here was the chain and their blood. It was an epic, violent type of match that I wish came around more often but is apparently just where wrestling peaks nowadays. The spot where Cody jumped to the top rope and Brodie just yanked him down with the chain = $$$.

Also Greg Valentine came in and sat in the stands for this one. I mean COME ON. Incredible.

Brian Cage vs. Will Hobbs for the FTW Title to open the show was really good, a serious hoss match where they maximized their minutes by ensuring a big suplex or bump was always a few seconds away.

It was really cool to see a big Jack Evans performance on TNT, challenging FTR for the Tag Titles and making sure he got a few completely insane dives in. I am in love with how taken JR seems to be with him too. He’s just a weird cat!!

Hey, Jon Moxley cuts a good promo.

Suggested Areas of Improvement

FTR should maybe watch some tapes of The Revival.

I love The Best Friends‘ feud with FTR but calling them weenies and wearing t-shirts with weenies on them good god man c’mon stop this.

Big Swole and Serena Deeb are fine wrestlers that were put in a big loser scenario here, sandwiched into irrelevance.

Luther?

I like parts of the MJF/Jericho stuff but it comes off forced sometimes, just like the heel Young Bucks. It’s a tone thing. AEW is usually better at it. When your show is at its’ best as a living breathing fighting world, I don’t understand the need to pause and remind everybody that you’re all about the entertaining stories.

My Favorite Things
