5 Star Movies

5 Star Movies: Good Boys, The Farewell, Brittany Runs a Marathon, The Report, The Aeronauts

Good Boys: Probably would’ve liked it a decade ago, but here I am at 32-years old just wanting more. It’s a fun movie but classic deal where the trailer showed all the good stuff. What they chose to spend their time doing with the rest just seemed added at the last minute to make it a movie. **1/2

The Farewell: A story that packs a punch, a very sweet movie that never betrays any of its’ characters or the heavy subject matter its’ examining. ****

Brittany Runs a Marathon: Well god damn pal, they gave Jillian Bell a vehicle. It’s real good too: funny, sweet, and not condescending. Seriously! ****

The Report: A real big movie, all serious and covering important stuff through a bunch of different lenses. It can’t help but not feel a little self-important, with Adam Driver and Annette Benning fiercely arguing with each other while Jon Hamm grins in an office, but it also keeps itself compelling. ***1/2

The Aeronauts: Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones take a dangerous trip in a hot air balloon. That’s it. That’s the whole movie. It’s pretty cool. ***1/4
