5 Star Movies

5 Star Movies: Fyre, Fyre Fraud, What They Had, Dumplin’, Shoplifters

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened: A documentary on a great modern American clusterfuck – there is no insight here, no revelations. There is just Billy. And his con makes for a wild watch. ****

Fyre Fraud: Same deal, but this has a weird interview with Billy and some incredible Ja Rule footage. ****

What They Had: A well-made bummer of a movie with a lot of good actors like Michael Shannon and Hilary Swank doing good acting. ***1/2

Dumplin’: An earnest movie that feels a little too easy. **3/4

Shoplifters: A gorgeously crafted, slow build of a movie that packs a punch. It’s a movie about family about a family that isn’t really an actual family – or are they? This is filmed as an observation of people, not a convenient story being told. Amazing. ****1/2
