Captain Marvel: We are officially at the point where you can say “typical Marvel movie.” This was fun, but it wasn’t quite a standout in the collection. Brie Larson has tremendous delivery and Young Sam Jackson and the backstory nods were a lot of fun. ***1/2
Cold Pursuit: Liam Neeson is getting revenge killing people in the snow. It’s billed as a black comedy but I didn’t really find much funny here, outside of the occasional amusing one-liner. Lots of drug lord banter and shotgun blasts. Eh. **
Apollo 11: This is a documentary with no talking heads – just incredible, mind-altering footage and audio of the Apollo 11 space flight: the team that made it happen getting it done, close-ups of the crowd watching it happen, and of course the astronauts themselves. Amazing. *****
Fighting With My Family: The pleasant type of Hollywood comedy usually released earlier in the year, with an extra amount of talent – Stephen Merchant is directing, while the family is stacked with Florence Pugh as Paige, Cersei Lannister as her mom, and Nick Frost as her dad. Plus The Rock shows up a bunch to act like God and cut promos. It’s nothing great, glosses over any subtlety, and sometimes acts as an infomercial for The Rock and WWE, but I’m just happy there’s a funny inoffensive wrestling flick out there. ***1/2
Long Shot: Seth Rogen has still got it, and I didn’t know that Charlize Theron was a secret comedic genius but here we are. Great stupid rom-com; they live in a political world that doesn’t exist but what they make exist they milk a lot of good stuff from. Entertainment. ***3/4
