5 Star Movies

5 Star Movies: Blindspotting, A Crooked Somebody, Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood, My Dinner with Hervé, Alpha

Blindspotting: This is a good movie but Daveed Diggs’ freestyle towards the finish is transcendent and one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen on film. ****

A Crooked Somebody: >A bit of a concept indy movie and by that I mean a situation that sounded fun on paper but has no basis in how real life works. Regardless, Rich Sommer is solid as a grifter in over his head. **3/4

Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood: The thing about this documentary is that Scotty basically ran a gay brothel out of a gas station that several prominent Hollywood names frequented and those connections provided this man with a very interesting life. His frankness about the fucking is fun to watch. I don’t know if it was feature-length fun, but it was fun. ***1/4

My Dinner with Hervé: I liked this a lot – Peter Dinklage plays a potential caricature completely straight and the movie does justice to a very interesting story of a guy far more interesting than his place in history. ***1/2

Alpha: I wish there was more dog than caveman ice storm fighting. **
