5 Star Movies

5 Star Movies: Super Troopers 2, Ibiza, American Animals, Action Point, Lowlife

Super Troopers 2: The charm wears off about a quarter of the way through but it was fun to see these guys do another run. **1/2

Ibiza: Really solid rom-com / finding yourself type of movie with a tremendous three leads in Community and Love’s Gillian Jacobs, SNL’s Vanessa Bayer, and 2 Dope Queens’ Phoebe Robinson (who should be in more stuff). I can’t say I loved it, but Bayer in a bathtub reflecting on her day by remarking “Classic Nikki” had be laughing harder than a lot of stuff this year. ***1/4

American Animals: This is a funny, unique take on a heist movie where the real (and still young) criminals are interviewed documentary-style while the narrative is depicted by actors. Fun concept, enjoyable movie. ***1/2

Action Point: Johnny Knoxville is still falling down but he’s also trying to have a heart and it like…. half works. This isn’t much of a movie though. **

Lowlife: Here’s a b-movie that could’ve easily been an overly violent stupid b-movie that ends up a freaking epic. The characters are interesting and as it goes on it gets more and more wild and intense. Hell of a finish too. Plus, this wrestling fan enjoyed that the central character is a Luchador. ***1/2
