NJPW on AXS (12/7/18) – Power Struggle 2018 Part 2 (11/3/18)

1. 3-Way Match – Super Jr. Tag league – Final: Roppongi 3K vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado vs. Shingo Takagi & BUSHI
This couldn’t quite escape the obstacle of being a 3-Way Tag Match, so the early stuff felt like a bunch of meaningless stuff. The performances were impressive though and they brought it home with a crazy finish. Shingo was the unsurprising highlight, bringing the pain with a running knee that penetrated SHO’s soul and an insane pop-up Death Valley Driver on poor Kanemaru, who took his biggest bump since 2005. Roppongi 3K as per usual stood out too, popping off sweet sequences and moves like nothing. Shingo vs. SHO is gonna be A Match, let me tell ya. Poor BUSHI takes a Shock Arrow right on his head and Roppongi 3K take the tournament. ***1/4

2. Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
I don’t care if both guys were stumbling around like they were selling exhaustion well, the majority of this match was a boring pile of trash. These two might just not click, which sucks because I dig both. It was like the first half of a ZSJ match with crazy limb contortion, then the second half of a Naito match with some hot near falls. In the G1 that felt OK if not disappointing, while here it just didn’t work. I kept waiting for it to but it never did. **
