Phantom Thread: There is care in everything here, but it’s a movie about an angry man making dresses. What a drag. **1/2
Lucky: A little meandering, but watching Harry Dean Stanton meander through a movie is a treat and David Lynch’s monologue on his tortoise is an all-timer. ****
The Clapper: This is a cruel world, but people aren’t as cruel as depicted here. Just a cheap lazy comedy movie with satire that doesn’t ring true for a second. *1/4
Wonderstruck: An OK movie inside of an incredible storytelling device: a story is told in the present with color, while another story is told as basically a silent movie in black-and-white. ***
Mute: I am still fascinated by everything Duncan Jones does, and Paul Rudd turns in a wacky performance, but this didn’t grab me like Jones’ other stuff (Warcraft excluded). Great visuals, interesting world, but – eh. ***
