Geostorm: Goofy paint-by-numbers bullshit and not enough cool effects to overcome that. Gerard Butler as a scientist? DUD
Last Flag Flying: This is a Richard Linklater movie so at a bare minimum it is quality stuff, and there’s a lot of good acting going around highlighted by Steve Carell. But Bryan Cranston as a badass unhinged Vietnam vet was cringe-worthy. ***1/4
The Florida Project: A slice of children and adults who seem terrible at first but who you end up rooting for thanks to some brilliant filmmaking. Incredible acting by mostly unknowns, and the last shot is completely brilliant. *****
The Foreigner: Jackie Chan gets his own Taken. There are also a lot of shots of Jackie Chan being sad. The Irish terrorist angle was a little odd, but this is a pretty sweet little action movie. ***1/4
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri: Love a Martin McDonough movie, love Frances McDormand, love Sam Rockwell, love this cast, love this film and the sprawling small world created from it. Interesting story, twists, acting… good stuff. ****1/2
