Dunirk: Beautiful to look at, a master at work. Gorgeously claustrophobic. Special. Maybe not a completely compelling story. But a special experience. ****1/4
Darkest Hour: Everything is quality really and yet I didn’t like it. **1/2
The Post: This is pretty by-the-books but WHAT A CAST, and they’re game for playing dress-up reporter. ****
Call Me By Your Name: An excellent, nuanced love story. The scene with the criminally underrated Michael Stuhlbarg… oh MAN. ****1/4
The Shape of Water: This is a quality movie. Maybe not Best Picture quality, but it’s a magical love story with excellent performances and movie-making all around. The fish fucking got the press, but Sally Hawkins brilliantly playing a deaf woman should’ve gotten way more. ****
