NJPW on AXS (4/21/17): Destruction in Hiroshima (9/22/16)

IWGP Tag Team Title: Jay Briscoe & Mark Briscoe [c] vs. The Young Bucks (9/22/16)
What the fuck were the Briscoe Brothers wearing here? Camouflage Big Bird pants? I couldn’t take any of this match seriously because of it. This had what these guys do – good action, crazy bumps, fun spots, no intensity. JR’s reaction to the the Buck superkicks might have been the high point: “And that’s gotta be a little frustrating – your go-to move is your superkick, you execute a double superkick, and you can’t beat your opponent!” God did the Briscoes run in Japan suck ass. **1/2

Tokyo Dome IWGP Heavyweight Title Contender’s Match: Kenny Omega [c] vs. YOSHI-HASHI (9/22/16)
I liked their last match during the G1 a lot better but this was good. The last one was a blast of a sprint; this was more a traditional New Japan-style match with a longer length and countout teases and body part work. YOSHI-HASHI takes a tope into the guardrail early, gets double superkicked by the Bucks, and Kenny Asai moonsaults into the crowd and goes to work with a very… cold spray and garbage can and superkick-based offensive onslaught. Wasn’t very fun. YOSHI has a nice counter towards the end of the One-=Winged Angel with a swinging DDT, as well as a nice hard sell of his hurt back, leaving him unable to take control, and Omega wraps it up with the Angel. Match was Compelling enough for the crowd in front of them so that’s good but not something that stands alone as must-see. Still though, good shit. ***1/2
