NJPW on AXS (2/17/17): Best of the Super Jr. XXIII Finals (6/7/16)

Satoshi Kojima & Michael Elgin vs. Kenny Omega & Bad Luke Fale (6/7/16)
This was a blast, man! A lot of New Japan tags can run together, but sometimes they have some real spice to them. This started as a brawl all over the place, then settled down into a pretty great southern tag match with Elgin getting worked over and Kojima being an AWESOME corner man – slapping the turnbuckle bad, just screaming at the ref when he tried to hold him back as Kenny choked Elgin in the corner. Awesome Kojima tag and hot hot finish, the crowd went positively mad when Elgin powerbombed Omega through a ladder. Oh and Omega doing a Rick Rude swivel then getting kicked down by Elgin might be a career highlight. ***1/4

Best of the Super Jr. – Final: Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Will Ospreay (6/7/16)
Great BOSJ final – main event feel, kept it fun early, big finish. Taguchi worked the leg, and Ospreay sold it like he couldn’t do his high-flying but had to anyways, for it is all he knows. Great sequence with Taguchi doing he Rainmaker pose > front cradle > kickoff countered with an ankle lock, which also got us this phrase: “Now he’s just grinding the old taint into Ospreay’s face’ – we’ve come a long way, baby. As this headed towards the finish it got really good – crowd was with them, popping for Will’s flying and all about Taguchi getting the W, with Taguchi going again and again to the heel hold on Will’s hurt leg. All the juniors popping for everything on the floor added to the fun. ****
