NJPW on AXS (2/10/17): Best of the Super Jr. XXIII (6/6/16)

Best of the Super Jr. – Block B: Volador Jr. vs. Will Ospreay (6/6/16)
This show covered the last day of the Best of the Super Junior tournament. Winner of this went to he finals. This had a lot of fun flying spots packed into 9 minutes – cartwheels, headscissors, an SSP by Will off the apron where he landed on his feet, I mean good lord. Ospreay has good intentions just isn’t all there yet, a lot screams “LOOK AT ME I’M A GOOD WRESTLER.” Volador is impressive but the Kane gear is throwing me off. Spanish fly reversal towards the end is crazy. **3/4

Best of the Super Jr. – Block A: KUSHIDA vs. BUSHI (6/6/16)
Lots of neat stuff in this here match: some nutty counters, BUSHI’s wild missile dropkick, KUSHIDA’s gorgeous running handspring kick, KUSHIDA’s selling, KUSHIDA’s arm work paying off with a Hoverboard Lock near fall. BUSHI bites and mists to get out of it, gets a nice near fall with a leaping Codebreaker, and hits another for 3. Love all the things this one result sets up… BUSHI prevents KUSHIDA from reaching the finals and earns himself a shot at the Jr. Title again. ***

Best of the Super Jr. – Block A: Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Gedo (6/6/16)
Not sure why AXS aired this at the end since KUSHIDA/BUSHI was the actual main event on 6/6/16. This is a decent angle of a match, not much to it though. Taguchi working in his hometown, entering with Gedo’s bandana, getting beat up outside with a ring bell hammer. Gedo undoes the turnbuckle pad, Taguchi gets a receipt by throwing him into it but fucks the Irish whip up. There’s a couple ass spots. Taguchi doing the Rainmaker pose complete with camera zoom-out was hilarious. **
