Well. It’s WrestleMania week. This is a time where WWE television is focused more on last-minute attempts to sell pay-per-views and Network subscriptions, not on great wrasslin. Who’s going to risk having a balls out match when the biggest payday of the year is less than a week away?
So it wasn’t the best week for in-ring action. NXT had a bunch of decent squashes, and I guess Charlotte vs. Becky from RAW was fun for like five minutes.
But I’m going to go with Kofi Kingston vs. Alberto del Rio as the best match this week.
Both of these guys are good, WWE-style workers. They know how to keep a crowd engaged, have fun sequences, and implement shenanigans into a wrestling match with the best of them.
This is the last real build for New Day vs. League of Nations at WrestleMania. Though a part of me wishes we could go back to the days where both teams just wrecked jobbers and cut promos for a few weeks before colliding at Mania, we’ve had a fun few weeks of various New Day vs. League singles and tag matches. This was probably the best of them. It was given some time, had some neat back-and-forth sequences, and had Xavier Woods playing La Cucaracha on the trombone.
It was good. It wasn’t great. And it was still the best TV match this week.
Now let’s all watch TakeOver: Dallas and WrestleMania and stuff. That’s gonna be fun.
